I Latisha, Creator

I'm not an overtly religious person. Spiritual definitely, but even then not in a praying, ritualistic way. I have what I think is actually pretty typical: an eclectic view of how these things work. I'd like to believe in a greater purpose for it all, to satisfy that annoying why are we here question. I've got to believe there is more here than just atoms or quarks or whatever randomly bouncing around making no sense. So I believe in this idea of a creator. A grand master being that is free to do and be whatever they please, possessing every skill at any moment. An entity that makes many somethings out of a few nothings and sometimes turns them to gold. Stay with me...

The other day, I decided it would be fun to paint. I had that precious two hour naptime window to fill doing something selfish. And this time as soon as I went into my bedroom, which also doubles as the create room, the sun and light were so beautiful I found myself in a daze. Soon my eyes were fixated on these two swatches of fabric sticking out from a pile. I grabbed some old parfait cups I got for free but never used, my paints and some brushes and immediately began. To my complete surprise, not only did I feel relaxed and peaceful, they turned out damn good and now I've got a couple of cute new vases. Now I'm not a painter. Nor do I draw. At all. But I am a creator, and this was where my spirit was this day. So that entity I was talking about earlier, I pretty much believe that it's me...and you...we are god or whatever. The best thing I remember about Sunday school was the bit about free will. We alone have the power to choose or create our own destiny. No third party required.
It reminded me of this snippet Buddha is supposed to have said just before he died:
Since there is no eternal saviour, it is up to each of you to work out your own liberation.
What do you say we create something beautiful and get liberated already?

The glasses did turn out great. My attempts to paint usually wind up looking like I let one of the kids loose with a paint brush.
